In Ahmedabad, Indian captain Suryakumar Yadav has shown unwavering support for mystery spinner Varun Chakravarthy as the team prepares for the ICC T20 World Cup 2026 final against New Zealand at the Narendra Modi Stadium this Sunday.

Chakravarthy has faced challenges since the Super 8s, managing only four wickets in four matches with an economy rate exceeding 11. His semi-final performance against England was particularly tough, conceding 64 runs in just four overs, marking his worst T20I statistics and the poorest for India in a World Cup match.

Team Spirit and Confidence

Despite these setbacks, Suryakumar emphasized the importance of teamwork and expressed confidence in Chakravarthy's ability to recover. Speaking to reporters before the final, he stated, "Winning is a collective effort; not every player will shine every day. We have 11 players, and it's natural for some to have off days. I have complete faith in him; he’s the world’s top bowler and knows how to turn a match around for us."

Chakravarthy's recent struggles do not overshadow his overall tournament performance, where he stands as one of the top wicket-takers with 13 wickets across 8 matches, averaging 19.07, including an impressive 3/7 against Namibia during the group stages.
