Sunrisers Hyderabad Signs Rising Star RS Ambrish as Shivam Mavi's Replacement
Sunrisers Hyderabad Strengthens Bowling Lineup
Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) has further enhanced its bowling squad by acquiring a promising young talent, RS Ambrish, following the unfortunate injury of Shivam Mavi. The franchise announced that Mavi will not participate in the current season, leading them to sign Ambrish, who was a standout performer in India's triumph at the 2026 U19 World Cup. The 18-year-old, known for his right-arm pace bowling and lower-order batting skills, will receive a salary of ₹30 lakhs.
Shivam Mavi's Injury Update
According to an official IPL announcement, Mavi has been sidelined for the season due to a groin injury. He was acquired by SRH for ₹75 lakhs during the 2026 IPL mini-auction. This injury adds to Mavi's ongoing struggles, as he has not played in the league since 2022 after being released by Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR). He was later picked up by Gujarat Titans (GT) for ₹6 crores in the 2023 auction but did not make it to the playing XI throughout the season, despite having debuted for India shortly before. After being released, he joined Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) for ₹6.40 crores but missed the entire season due to injury. Mavi was initially signed by KKR for ₹3 crores after his impressive performance in the 2018 U19 World Cup, and later for ₹7.25 crores in the 2022 mega auction.
Introducing RS Ambrish
RS Ambrish, a talented cricketer from Tamil Nadu, emerged as one of India's joint-highest wicket-takers during the U19 World Cup, claiming 11 wickets across seven matches with an impressive economy rate of 4.93, including a four-wicket haul. He also contributed 73 runs with the bat. The young bowler has already participated in two first-class matches for his state in the Ranji Trophy. Ambrish becomes the fifth player from the victorious 2026 U-19 World Cup team to secure an IPL contract, joining the ranks of Vaibhav Sooryavanshi (RR), Ayush Mhatre (CSK), Vihaan Malhotra (RCB), and Kanishk Chouhan (RCB).
