Sumit Antil Alleges Mental Harassment by Coach Naval Singh, Supported by Neeraj Chopra
Serious Allegations Against Coach Naval Singh
New Delhi, April 17: Sumit Antil, a two-time Paralympic medalist, has made grave accusations against his javelin coach, Naval Singh, claiming mental harassment and the frequent use of abusive language. Olympic champion Neeraj Chopra has voiced his support for Antil's complaint, which has been submitted to the Sports Authority of India (SAI).
Sources indicate that the SAI has acknowledged the complaint and is addressing the issue with the relevant federation.
However, SAI clarified that Naval Singh is not directly employed by them; he is currently affiliated with the Athletics Federation of India (AFI) as part of the National Coaching Camp.
According to a source from SAI, "A complaint has been lodged by Sumit Antil, alleging verbal abuse from Coach Naval Singh. This complaint has garnered support from other athletes, including Neeraj Chopra."
Furthermore, the source added, "The coach in question is not an employee of SAI and is training another prominent athlete under the National Coaching Camp organized by AFI. The complaint has been received, and the federation is addressing the matter accordingly."
Notably, Indian wrestling star Vinesh Phogat has also condemned the alleged mental harassment faced by Antil, expressing her concern that medal-winning athletes are often disrespected while those in power choose to remain silent.
In a post on X, Phogat stated, "The dignity of those who bring medals for the country will be trampled every time, and the responsible people will remain silent as always. This is the new India, isn’t it?"
