Suhail Bhat's Inspiring Journey in Football

Kolkata (West Bengal) [India], June 22: The story of Suhail Bhat, who transitioned from being a ball boy to a prominent player on the national team, is truly motivational. Currently, he is fulfilling his aspirations with Mohun Bagan Super Giant (MBSG), as highlighted on the official Indian Super League (ISL) website.

During the 2024-25 season, Bhat was a key member of MBSG's squad that achieved a remarkable double victory in the Indian Super League. He also celebrated winning the Durand Cup and the League Shield in his inaugural season with the team in 2023-24.

Originating from Jammu and Kashmir, Bhat began his football journey with Indian Arrows. He later joined the reserve team of MBSG, where his impressive goal-scoring ability quickly earned him a spot on the first team.

Reflecting on his career, he shared, “I played for the Arrows, and after the AFC U-19 tournament, my agent informed me of MBSG's interest. I was determined to join them, regardless of the financial offer.” He expressed a strong desire to be part of MBSG from the outset, as he mentioned in an interview with MBSG TV.

“Once I joined, I played for the reserve team, where we had excellent chemistry, which helped me score more goals. I netted goals in the Calcutta Football League (CFL) and the Reliance Foundation Development League (RFDL). My debut was unforgettable; I scored a hat-trick against Mohammedan Sporting Club SC, marking the beginning of my career,” he recounted.

Bhat takes immense pride in being part of MBSG. When asked about the team's journey during the 2024-25 season, he remarked, “It’s incredible. Looking back, it feels surreal. Winning so many trophies is hard to believe. The experience of teamwork and resilience after losses has been invaluable, and winning the Shield and Cup together feels like a dream.”

He showcased his skills in the Kalinga Super Cup 2025, scoring two goals, and recently received a call-up to the senior Indian national team. Under the mentorship of Manolo Marquez, he made his debut for the Blue Tigers against Thailand in an international friendly.

The 20-year-old forward expressed his excitement about his first national team call-up and the experience of being in the same dressing room as legends like Sunil Chhetri. “Since my early days in football, my goal was to reach the senior team and represent my country. Receiving my first call-up felt like a dream come true. Being alongside senior players who support and encourage me is an amazing experience,” he concluded.
