Stuart Broad Hails Virat Kohli as Cricket's Most Influential Player
Broad's Tribute to Kohli's Impact
Stuart Broad has expressed immense admiration for Virat Kohli, labeling him as 'the most significant cricketer of all time.' This accolade came after Kohli's stellar performance led the Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) to defend their title in the 2026 Indian Premier League (IPL) final against Gujarat Titans (GT), where he was awarded Player of the Match for scoring 75 runs off 42 balls. At 37, Kohli's contributions have been pivotal in securing RCB's second IPL trophy.
Broad highlighted Kohli's impressive collection of accolades, which includes multiple ICC trophies and a successful tenure as captain of the Indian Test team, where he maintained India's top ranking for several years, earning multiple Test maces. He stated, 'One could argue that he is the most crucial cricketer in the dynamic landscape we've witnessed over the past 15 years. His achievements are remarkable, including winning the under-19 World Cup as captain, two Champions Trophy titles, an ODI World Cup, a T20 World Cup, and holding the World Test Championship Mace for three years, along with two IPL titles.'
Broad drew parallels between Kohli's back-to-back IPL victories and Rory McIlroy's journey in golf, noting how both faced significant pressure before achieving their goals. 'It seemed like the IPL title might elude him, similar to McIlroy's situation where everyone was eager for him to succeed. Once he broke through, he managed to win consecutively. Achieving back-to-back titles requires strong leadership and a reset of goals and motivation, which Kohli exemplifies with his relentless drive,' Broad concluded. Kohli finished the season as RCB's top scorer with 675 runs, also leading in their 2025 championship campaign, making him the only player to be the top scorer for the winning team in two seasons.
