Srikkanth Critiques CSK Management Over Dhoni's Injury Deception
Former Captain's Strong Words Against CSK
Krishnamachari Srikkanth, the former Indian cricket captain, has launched a fierce critique against the Chennai Super Kings (CSK) management, including captain Ruturaj Gaikwad and coach Stephen Fleming. He accused them of misleading fans regarding MS Dhoni's fitness during the IPL season. This criticism arose amidst a viral social media discussion dubbed the 'MS Dhoni Scam,' where frustrated fans expressed their discontent on X. Srikkanth condemned the management for exploiting fan nostalgia through misleading training videos, despite knowing that the veteran player would not participate in any matches.
The issue came to light when Aniruddha Srikkanth, a former IPL player, discussed the fan outrage on his show and sought his father's opinion. Srikkanth did not hold back, urging the franchise to stop the misleading narratives. He stated, 'Before the season commenced, they claimed he had a leg injury and hoped for his return soon. Fleming and Gaikwad echoed this sentiment, suggesting he might be ready for upcoming matches. Yet, CSK would release training videos of Dhoni, hinting at his fitness and potential participation.'
Srikkanth pointed out that the shifting medical explanations from CSK management crossed the line from tactical discretion to public dishonesty. Initially sidelined due to a calf injury, which was expected to keep him out for two weeks, Dhoni later faced a secondary thigh strain. Reports later indicated he was fit but opted out to maintain team dynamics. Notably, Dhoni did not travel with the team for away games and only appeared for a lap of honour during the last home match at Chepauk. Despite this, the management never explicitly ruled him out. Ironically, when asked about Dhoni's status after CSK's final game, Ruturaj responded, 'You will know next year.' Srikkanth concluded, 'Then they said he is still recovering from the injury. Stop this deception. If he is not playing this season, be honest about it. Fans would have been mentally prepared had you communicated that clearly.'
