Sri Lanka Unveils 15-Member Squad for Upcoming Test Series Against Pakistan
Sri Lanka's Squad Announcement for Test Series
Colombo [Sri Lanka], October 13: Sri Lanka has officially announced a 15-member team for their forthcoming ICC World Test Championship series against Pakistan.
The Sri Lankan team is set to visit Pakistan for two Test matches starting November 9, with venues in Rawalpindi and Lahore.
Kusal Mendis will lead the squad, while seasoned batsman Pathum Nissanka has been included, contingent on his recovery before the first Test.
Nissanka was unable to participate in the recent series against India in August due to a wrist injury, which was notably felt as India secured a 1-0 series victory in the two-match contest.
Additionally, Dilshan Madushanka makes a return to the Test lineup, and Eshan Malinga has also received a call-up. However, right-handed opener Lahiru Udara, despite scoring 188 against the West Indies in June, has not made the cut, nor has Niroshan Dickwella.
Uncapped wicketkeeper-batter Anjala Bandara has been included in the squad. The 22-year-old has played 31 first-class matches, accumulating 2,239 runs in 46 innings at an impressive average of 65.85, including seven centuries and fifties, with a top score of 200.
Currently, Sri Lanka is positioned seventh in the WTC standings, with one win, two losses, and three draws, resulting in a points percentage of 33.33. Pakistan, on the other hand, is at the bottom with a points percentage of 4.63, having won two and lost seven Tests in this cycle, including a recent 0-3 defeat against England.
In contrast, Sri Lanka faced a 1-0 defeat against India at home, although twin centuries from Sonal Dinusha allowed them to secure a draw in the second Test, preventing a clean sweep by the two-time WTC finalists.
Sri Lanka squad: Kusal Mendis (c), Pathum Nissanka, Pasindu Sooriyabandara, Dinesh Chandimal, Kamindu Mendis, Sonal Dinusha, Dhananjaya De Silva, Anjala Bandara, Keshara Nuwantha, Prabath Jayasuriya, Milan Rathnayaka, Lahiru Kumara, Asitha Fernando, Dilshan Madushanka, Eshan Malinga.
