South Africa's Ashwell Prince and Kyle Verreynne Face Reprimands for Umpire Dissent
Reprimands Issued for Dissent Against Umpires
Dubai [UAE], November 2: South Africa's batting coach Ashwell Prince and player Kyle Verreynne have received official reprimands for violating Level 1 of the ICC Code of Conduct during the third day of the third Test against Australia in Cape Town, as reported by an ICC Media release.
Both individuals were found to have breached Article 2.8 of the ICC Code of Conduct, which pertains to 'showing dissent at an Umpire's decision during an International Match.'
As a result of their actions, each has been assigned one demerit point on their disciplinary records, marking their first infractions within a 24-month timeframe.
The reprimand stemmed from an incident involving the dismissal of opener Marques Ackerman during South Africa's second innings. Ackerman attempted to challenge the caught decision, but the umpires determined that his request for a review was not made within the required 15 seconds.
As Ackerman made his way towards the boundary, Prince vocally protested to the umpires, insisting that there was still time to lodge the appeal. Meanwhile, Verreynne, who was not part of the playing eleven, urged Ackerman to stay on the field, causing a delay in his exit.
Both Prince and Verreynne acknowledged their misconduct and accepted the penalties suggested by Javagal Srinath from the Emirates ICC Elite Panel of Match Referees, eliminating the need for formal hearings.
The charges were brought forth by on-field umpires Richard Illingworth and Richard Kettleborough, along with third umpire Chris Gaffaney and fourth umpire Lubabalo Gcuma.
Level 1 violations carry a minimum penalty of an official reprimand, with a maximum fine of 50 percent of a player's match fee, and can result in one or two demerit points.
