South Africa to Host India for T20I Series Ahead of Women's Champions Trophy
Exciting T20I Series Added to India’s Tour of South Africa
Johannesburg, South Africa - On August 7, it was announced that South Africa has scheduled three T20 International matches against India as part of their home series later this year. This addition aims to enhance their preparations for the inaugural ICC Women’s Champions Trophy set for next year.
The T20 matches are slated to occur shortly after Christmas, just weeks before the Champions Trophy kicks off in February 2027.
India's tour will encompass a total of seven matches in South Africa throughout December. This includes a single Test match in Gqeberha starting December 9, followed by a three-match ODI series commencing December 16, and concluding with the T20I series beginning December 26, as confirmed by the ICC.
This series will continue the competitive spirit between the two teams, especially after India triumphed over South Africa in the ICC Women’s Cricket World Cup final last year, securing their first 50-over championship.
Pholetsi Moseki, CEO of Cricket South Africa, expressed enthusiasm about the updated schedule, emphasizing that India's visit will significantly aid in their preparation for the Champions Trophy in February.
“We are thrilled to announce the revised itinerary for India’s tour, which now includes the T20 International series during the festive season. This will ensure our Proteas Women are optimally prepared for the inaugural ICC Women’s Champions Trophy in Sri Lanka early next year,” Moseki stated in a release quoted by the ICC.
“India is among the top teams in global cricket, and competing against them in all three formats will provide essential experience as we gear up for another significant ICC event,” he added.
