This victory boosts South Africa's standing in the ICC World Test Championship, setting the stage for a thrilling decider in Cape Town. Will Australia bounce back, or will South Africa continue their winning streak? Read on for more details.

South Africa Dominates Australia in Second Test

In Gqeberha, South Africa secured a decisive innings-and-31-run victory against Australia on Day 5, thanks to Travis Head's resilient century that provided a brief flicker of hope for the visitors. This win not only leveled the three-match series at 1-1 but also set the stage for an exciting final match in the ICC World Test Championship series.

Australia's captain, Pat Cummins, admitted that his team did not perform to their potential during this defeat, despite commendable efforts from Travis Head and Scott Boland. He noted that unlike their previous victory in Durban, where contributions came from various players, this time, the team lacked sufficient support across the board.

Cummins expressed confidence in the team's all-rounder options, downplaying concerns about team balance while emphasizing the need for more players to step up. "There was some good fight today. Scotty Boland and Trav both played their roles well. However, it wasn't enough. Compared to our performance in Durban, we were far from our best. Last week, everyone contributed, and those small efforts added up to a win. Today, we just didn't have enough contributions across the board," he stated post-match.

The victory significantly enhances South Africa's position in the ICC World Test Championship 2025–27 standings. Entering the match in third place, the Proteas gained 12 vital points, raising their points percentage (PCT) to 66.67%, while Australia remains at the top despite a drop to 75.00%.

With the series tied at 1-1, both teams will head to Cape Town for a highly anticipated series decider.
