New Delhi, July 9: The cricketing world celebrated as former Indian captain Sourav Ganguly was inducted into the ICC Hall of Fame, receiving heartfelt tributes from prominent figures in Indian cricket, including his former teammates Yuvraj Singh and Harbhajan Singh.


Ganguly's induction marks him as the 12th Indian cricketer to achieve this prestigious honor, which was announced during the ICC's annual conference held in Edinburgh. Coincidentally, this recognition coincided with his 54th birthday, adding a significant milestone to his remarkable cricketing career.


Former spinner Harbhajan Singh was among the first to congratulate him, expressing his joy on social media. "Congratulations Captain. Happy to hear the Announcement," he posted on X.


Yuvraj Singh, who played alongside Ganguly in the early 2000s, shared his thoughts on the former captain's enduring impact on Indian cricket. "Congratulations Dada on being inducted into the ICC Hall of Fame. Thoroughly deserved! You didn’t just build a team, you built belief in a generation of cricketers. Grateful to have played under your leadership and created memories that will last a lifetime. Congratulations once again," Yuvraj wrote.


Batting legend Sachin Tendulkar also sent his best wishes to his longtime opening partner. "There aren't too many surprises left after knowing each other since we were 14. This wasn't one either. Congratulations @SGanguly99. So happy to see you in the @ICC Hall of Fame!" Tendulkar shared on X.


In response, Ganguly expressed his heartfelt gratitude, acknowledging the significance of this recognition. "Thank you champion... to be in the same list as you is the biggest job satisfaction ever @bcci," he replied.


Currently, Ganguly serves as the president of the Cricket Association of Bengal (CAB) and is now the 12th Indian overall and the 10th Indian male cricketer to receive this esteemed accolade.


As one of India's most impactful captains, Ganguly has played 113 Tests and 311 One-Day Internationals, amassing 7,212 and 11,363 runs respectively. Beyond his batting prowess, he is credited with transforming Indian cricket in the early 2000s, fostering a fearless generation of players and leading the team to the 2003 ODI World Cup final.


His induction into the ICC Hall of Fame places him among the legends of the sport. Previous Indian inductees include notable names such as Bishan Singh Bedi, Sunil Gavaskar, Kapil Dev, Anil Kumble, Rahul Dravid, Sachin Tendulkar, Vinoo Mankad, Diana Edulji, Virender Sehwag, Neetu David, and MS Dhoni.
