Celebrating Sourav Ganguly's ICC Hall of Fame Induction
On July 8, coinciding with Sourav Ganguly's 54th birthday, the International Cricket Council (ICC) announced his induction into the prestigious Hall of Fame. This recognition will be formally celebrated on July 11, marking Ganguly as the 12th Indian cricketer to receive this honor, joining the ranks of legends like Sunil Gavaskar, Kapil Dev, and Mahendra Singh Dhoni. Currently, the ICC Hall of Fame comprises 122 members, including 107 male cricketers and 15 female cricket icons.
Sachin Tendulkar's Heartfelt Message
Following the announcement, Sachin Tendulkar expressed his joy on social media, reminiscing about their friendship that began at the age of 14. He congratulated Ganguly, stating, "There aren't too many surprises left after knowing each other since we were 14. This wasn't one either. Congratulations @SGanguly99. So happy to see you in the @ICC Hall of Fame!" Ganguly responded with gratitude, saying, "Thank you champion .. to be in the same list as you is the biggest job satisfaction ever."
Ganguly's Legacy in Indian Cricket
Sourav Ganguly is celebrated as one of India's greatest cricketers and captains. He played 113 Test matches and 311 One Day Internationals (ODIs), amassing 7,212 and 11,363 runs respectively, including 38 centuries across all formats. As captain, he led India in 49 Test matches, achieving 21 victories, which ranks as the third-best record for an Indian captain. Additionally, he captained the team in 146 ODIs, securing 76 wins, which included a shared Champions Trophy title in 2002 and a memorable run to the Cricket World Cup final in 2003. Beyond statistics, Ganguly's leadership was pivotal in restoring the integrity of Indian cricket following the match-fixing scandal.
