Kolhapur (Maharashtra) [India], September 20: Indian shooter Sonam Maskar has made her family proud by clinching a silver medal in the Women’s 10m Air Rifle Team event at the Asian Games 2026 held in Aichi-Nagoya, Japan. Her sister, Manasi Maskar, expressed her admiration for Sonam's dedication and journey.

India marked its entry into the medal tally at the 2026 Asian Games at the Aichi Prefectural General Shooting Gallery. The team, consisting of Elavenil Valarivan, Sonam Uttam Maskar, and Vidarsa Kochalumkal Vinod, achieved a qualification score of 1898.0 points, securing the silver medal in the women’s 10m Air Rifle team event.

In a statement, Manasi Maskar shared her pride in Sonam's accomplishment, stating, “I am incredibly proud that my sister has won the silver medal. Her journey and the effort she has put in are truly commendable, and she deserves all the accolades.”

China took home the gold medal with a total of 1904.2 points, thanks to the stellar performances of Wang Zifei (636.8), Han Jiayu (633.8), and Du Yuchen (633.6). Meanwhile, Japan secured the bronze medal with a combined score of 1897.1.

Sonam led the Indian team’s qualification with an impressive score of 634.1, finishing third overall, while Elavenil followed in seventh place with 633.5. Vidarsa contributed a solid score of 630.4, placing 12th in the individual rankings, which helped secure the team silver for India.
