Captain Sikandar Raza Takes Responsibility for Team's Performance

Harare [Zimbabwe], July 26: Following a disappointing 90-run loss to India in the second T20I, Zimbabwe's captain Sikandar Raza expressed his regret over his batting performance, acknowledging that he has not met expectations.

He commended the openers for their aggressive approach but noted that the team's lack of experience and poor shot choices were detrimental to their efforts.

Raza has faced challenges in T20 cricket recently, with three consecutive low scores. He scored only 3 runs against Bangladesh and followed that with scores of 4 and a duck in the initial two T20Is against India.

“We intended to be aggressive, and our openers provided the start we needed. However, our inexperience and shot selection have let us down. As captain, I feel I have also failed the team with my batting,” Raza stated.

He recognized the need for better contributions from himself, both with the bat and ball, and committed to improving in the upcoming matches, emphasizing that his performance is crucial for the team's success.

“It’s my responsibility to perform because the team relies on my runs and bowling, which has not been the case in the last two T20 matches. I will do my utmost to turn things around, as my runs could greatly benefit the team,” he added.

Zimbabwe's batting issues have been apparent in their recent T20 outings, with scores of 143 and 126 while batting first, followed by a total of just 129 in a chase.

The third T20I against India is set to take place in Harare on Sunday, with Raza and his team eager to reverse their fortunes and avoid a clean sweep in the series.
