Shubman Gill's Remarkable Achievement

Shubman Gill made headlines by leading the Gujarat Titans (GT) to the 2026 Indian Premier League (IPL) after a decisive seven-wicket victory over the Rajasthan Royals (RR) in the second qualifier, finishing with eight balls to spare. The 26-year-old cricketer was the standout performer, scoring his fifth IPL century with an impressive 104 runs off just 53 balls. His remarkable innings played a crucial role in the Titans successfully chasing down a target of 215, aided by a solid 167-run opening partnership with Sai Sudharsan, who contributed 58 runs from 32 balls. Gill's explosive performance featured 15 fours and three sixes.

Historic Milestones Achieved by Gill

Gill has now become the first player in IPL history to score multiple centuries during playoff matches. He had previously achieved this feat in the 2023 edition's second qualifier against the Mumbai Indians (MI), where he scored 129 runs at Ahmedabad's Narendra Modi Stadium, setting the record for the highest individual score in a playoff match.

Moreover, Gill reached his century in just 47 balls, marking the fastest playoff century in IPL history, surpassing the previous record of 49 balls held by Rajat Patidar against Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) in the 2022 eliminator at Kolkata's Eden Gardens. Additionally, he is the first captain to score a century in IPL playoffs, breaking the record previously shared by Patidar and David Warner for the highest individual score during this stage of the tournament.

As the Indian Test and ODI captain, Gill has also become the youngest player to achieve five centuries in IPL history, with no player having more than three centuries at the age of 26. He is the youngest captain to accumulate 700 runs in a single season and the second-youngest player overall, following his opening partner Sai Sudharsan. Furthermore, Gill is the first opening batsman to score over 500 runs in IPL playoff matches, with only Suresh Raina (714) having more runs than him at this stage of the competition. Currently, Gill has amassed 581 runs in playoffs, surpassing MS Dhoni's tally of 523.

Gill is set to become the first captain to play in an IPL final for the same team he previously played for as a player. Notably, Kane Williamson and Sachin Tendulkar have led teams in finals but did not participate in the playing XI during those matches.
