Historic Achievement by Shubman Gill

In a remarkable display of skill, Indian captain Shubman Gill made history on Wednesday by scoring the fastest double century in One Day Internationals (ODIs), reaching the milestone in just 117 balls. This impressive feat occurred during the second ODI against the West Indies held in Guwahati.

Gill's achievement eclipsed the previous record held by Ishan Kishan, who took 126 balls to hit a double century against Bangladesh in Chattogram in 2022.

Additionally, Gill became only the second player, following Glenn Maxwell, to score an ODI double century while chasing a target. Maxwell had achieved this with an unbeaten 201 against Afghanistan at the Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai earlier this year.

With this double century, Gill joins Rohit Sharma as the only players to have multiple double hundreds in men's ODI cricket. His 200 runs came off just 117 balls, placing Kishan's record as the second-fastest double century in ODIs.

On the same day, Rohit Sharma reached a significant milestone, becoming the third Indian player to amass 12,000 runs in ODIs. He joins the ranks of cricket legends Sachin Tendulkar and Virat Kohli.

Rohit achieved this landmark in 282 innings, making him the second-fastest player to reach this total, with only Virat Kohli accomplishing it in fewer innings (242). Sachin Tendulkar needed 300 innings, while Ricky Ponting and Kumar Sangakkara follow with 314 and 336 innings, respectively.
