Shubman Gill Praises Team's Resilience in Draw Against England
India Secures Draw in Fourth Test of Anderson-Tendulkar Trophy
Manchester [UK], July 28: Indian Test captain Shubman Gill expressed his admiration for the team's batting performance after they managed to draw the fourth Test in the five-match Anderson-Tendulkar Trophy series against England on Sunday.
Remarkable centuries from Ravindra Jadeja and Washington Sundar in the second innings were pivotal in helping India secure the draw at Old Trafford, Manchester.
During the post-match presentation, Gill remarked, "I am extremely pleased with our batting display. Over the past few days, we faced significant pressure. The key was to focus on each ball, especially on a Day 5 pitch where every delivery felt crucial."
India batted for over five sessions to salvage the Manchester Test, finishing Day 5 at 425/4, with Jadeja and Sundar both remaining unbeaten at 107 and 101, respectively. The pair formed an impressive partnership, adding 203 runs without losing their wicket.
Commenting on the innings of Jadeja and Sundar, Gill noted, "We aimed to take it one ball at a time and extend the game as much as possible, which was our strategy. They played exceptionally well, and we felt they deserved centuries given their performance."
In the lead-up to the Test series in England, chief selector Ajit Agarkar revealed that Jasprit Bumrah was advised against playing consecutive Tests to manage his workload. This decision follows a stress reaction in his back sustained during the fifth Test against Australia in Sydney earlier this year.
Bumrah participated in the first and third Tests, showcasing his skill, but India lost both matches. With one Test remaining, India trails the series 1-2, and it remains uncertain if Bumrah will feature in the final match at Old Trafford.
Regarding Bumrah's potential participation in the fifth Test, Gill stated, "We will have to wait and see about Bumrah's availability for the Oval Test."
The concluding Test of the Anderson-Tendulkar Trophy 2025 is scheduled to take place at London's Kennington Oval from July 31 to August 4.
On the topic of the toss for the upcoming match, Gill added, "As long as we win the match at the Oval, I don't mind the toss outcome."
