Shubman Gill Receives Prestigious Award
New Delhi, March 16: Shubman Gill expressed his heartfelt appreciation after being honored with the Polly Umrigar Award for Best International Cricketer (Men) for the 2024-25 season during the BCCI Naman Awards 2026 held in the capital on Sunday.
The prominent Indian cricketer, who captains both the ODI and Test teams, conveyed his gratitude to the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI). He remarked that receiving the Polly Umrigar Award is a significant privilege, especially considering the legendary players who have received it in the past.
Gill attributed India's cricketing success over the past year to the team's collective effort and thanked his teammates, along with his parents and family, for their unwavering support throughout his career.
“First of all, I want to thank the BCCI. Many greats and legends have received this award, so it’s a tremendous honor to be recognized here. The achievements we made last year as a cricketing unit have been remarkable. Winning five ICC trophies is unprecedented. I also want to express my gratitude to my teammates; this wouldn’t have been possible without them. Additionally, my parents and family have been instrumental in my journey,” Gill stated in a video shared by a sports media channel on X.
This is the second occasion Gill has been awarded the title of Best International Cricketer (Men) at the Naman Awards, having previously won it for the 2022-24 season.
In 2025, Shubman Gill had an exceptional year, particularly in Test cricket. During India's tour of England, he stood out as the top run-scorer in the five-Test series, accumulating 754 runs in 10 innings with an impressive average of 75.40, including four centuries and a highest score of 269. He also finished as the highest run-scorer globally for the year 2025, amassing 983 runs in nine matches at an average of 70.21.
Moreover, the 26-year-old played a crucial role in India's triumphant Champions Trophy 2025 campaign, scoring an unbeaten 101 against Bangladesh in the tournament's opening match. He concluded the tournament with 188 runs at an average of 47, making him India's third-highest run-scorer.
