As has been the case in recent seasons, the Impact Player rule is expected to stir debate once again. Introduced in IPL 2023, this rule has faced criticism from various experts and prominent players. Notable figures such as Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli have expressed concerns, arguing that it undermines the role of traditional all-rounders. Ahead of the upcoming season, Shubman Gill, captain of the Gujarat Titans and Team India's Test and ODI skipper, has also voiced his disapproval of the Impact Player rule.

During a pre-tournament press conference for the Gujarat Titans, Gill stated his opposition to the rule, emphasizing that it detracts from the essence of a game meant to be played by 11 players. He remarked, “Personally, for me, I don’t think there should be an impact player. I think cricket in general is an 11-player game, and on wickets where we play, on the grounds that we play, adding an extra batsman takes the skill out of the game. There’s a certain skill in the game that you need to have when you have a certain amount of batters, and if a couple of your batters get out, there’s an amount of skill that you need to have to still get the scoreboard moving and get your team to a good score. I think with that one extra player, it’s making the game more one-dimensional, and it’s taking a little bit of the skill out of the game,” Gill explained.
