Before the IPL 2026 Qualifier 1 match at the HPCA Stadium in Dharamsala, Shubman Gill, the captain of Gujarat Titans, had a delightful interaction with Royal Challengers Bengaluru icon Virat Kohli. Initially, Gill was seen chatting with RCB's vice-captain Jitesh Sharma in a video that has since gone viral. Upon noticing Kohli, Gill approached his idol, leading to a warm embrace between the two. Kohli playfully teased the young captain by tugging at his cheek and inspecting his beard, all while holding a black tote bag.

In the ongoing tournament, Virat Kohli leads the RCB batting lineup with an impressive 557 runs across 14 group-stage matches, including a century and four half-centuries. Meanwhile, Shubman Gill is not far behind, standing as the second-highest run-scorer with 616 runs in the same number of games, also in contention for the coveted Orange Cap. Currently, he trails only his teammate Sai Sudharsan, who has amassed 638 runs.

The four teams that will compete in the playoffs of the 2026 Indian Premier League have been confirmed. Rajasthan Royals secured their spot by defeating Mumbai Indians by 30 runs at the Wankhede Stadium, joining Royal Challengers Bengaluru, Gujarat Titans, and Sunrisers Hyderabad in the next round. The winner of the first qualifier between RCB and GT will move on to the final, scheduled for May 31 in Ahmedabad. On Wednesday, Sunrisers Hyderabad will face Rajasthan Royals in the eliminator, with the victor advancing to the second qualifier, while the loser will be eliminated from the tournament. The winner of the Eliminator will then compete against the losing team from Qualifier 1 in Qualifier 2 to claim the final spot in the championship match.
