Shreyas Iyer Sets Sights on IPL Trophy as Punjab Kings Prepare for 2026 Season
Building Team Spirit Ahead of IPL 2026
On Friday, Shreyas Iyer expressed his determination to secure the trophy, emphasizing that the Punjab Kings are prioritizing strong team relationships as they gear up for the Indian Premier League 2026 season.
During the jersey unveiling ceremony in Mohali, Iyer highlighted the significance of team bonding in the early stages of the tournament.
He remarked, "This is the time we come together as a family for two months. The more time we share, the better we understand each other. Now is when we cultivate that camaraderie."
Iyer noted, "We often gather in the game room. While match strategies are usually formulated a day or two before the game, fostering this bond off the field ultimately leads to improved performance."
The Punjab Kings will kick off their season against the Gujarat Titans at home on March 31.
Acknowledging the high expectations from fans, who have affectionately dubbed him 'Sarpanch Sahab', Iyer made his aspirations clear.
"Expectations are elevated, which I find exciting. I thrive on challenges. However, the key is that we must secure victories whenever we step onto the field. My focus is on the trophy," he stated.
The captain, who has recently faced injury challenges, also shared insights about his recovery journey.
"Returning from an injury is always tough. I lost about seven kilos, and regaining that weight required significant effort. But I embrace challenges. I’m proud to have overcome that phase and to represent the team again," he added.
Pressure is a Privilege
Arshdeep Singh, the left-arm pacer, echoed his captain's sentiments, emphasizing the importance of home support in Mullanpur.
"Feeling pressure is a privilege. It’s exhilarating to receive such strong backing from the crowd. When fans cheer for you, it feels like 30,000 people are running alongside you. We aim to win all our home games this season," Arshdeep remarked.
Reflecting on his journey with the franchise, the Indian seamer credited the team management for their early support in his career.
"My journey has been incredible. When I first joined, they provided unwavering support and recognized my potential. They believed in me when no other team did. I truly appreciate that, and I hope to stay here for a long time, aiming to win numerous trophies for the team," he concluded.
