Shrachi Bengal Tigers Secure Narrow Win
New Delhi [India], January 4: In a disciplined display, the Shrachi Bengal Tigers clinched a narrow 1-0 victory against the Ranchi Royals during the eighth match of the Women's Hockey India League (HIL) 2025-26, held at the Marang Gomke Jaipal Singh Astro Turf Hockey Stadium on Sunday.
The only goal of the match came from Agustina Gorzelany in the 37th minute, allowing her team to earn three points and ascend to second place in the standings, as reported.
Ranchi Royals, riding high on previous victories, started strong, controlling the midfield early on. They earned five penalty corners and made seven penetrations into the circle during the first quarter but failed to score against the impressive Jennifer Rizzo, the goalkeeper for the Shrachi Bengal Tigers.
Counter-attacking effectively, the Tigers had a late chance in the first quarter, but Bichu Devi Kharibam made several crucial saves to keep the score level.
As the second quarter progressed, the Shrachi Bengal Tigers began to assert themselves, applying pressure on the Royals' defense with seven circle penetrations and a few penalty corners. However, Madhuri Kindo, the goalkeeper for the Royals, made vital saves to maintain a 0-0 scoreline at halftime.
In the second half, the Ranchi Royals intensified their offensive efforts and came close to scoring on multiple occasions. Yet, it was Agustina Gorzelany who broke the deadlock in the 37th minute, converting a penalty corner for her fourth goal of the season, giving the Tigers a 1-0 advantage. The Royals sought to respond quickly but struggled to penetrate the disciplined defense of the Shrachi Bengal Tigers.
During the final quarter, the Ranchi Royals dominated possession, relentlessly searching for an equalizer. Despite achieving seven circle penetrations and five penalty corners, they were unable to breach the solid defense of the Shrachi Bengal Tigers, who secured three vital points.
