Shooting Coach Faces Allegations of Misconduct Amid Ongoing Investigation

A shooting coach is facing serious allegations of sexual misconduct involving young athletes, leading to his suspension from the Dr Karni Singh Shooting Range. The investigation was initiated after a parent raised concerns, and further incidents were reported during an international competition in Germany. The National Rifle Association of India is currently handling the complaints, and a formal hearing has taken place. As the inquiry unfolds, the coach has been reassigned pending the outcome. This situation raises significant concerns about athlete safety and the responsibilities of sports authorities.

Allegations Against Junior Shooting Team Coach

A coach associated with the junior shooting team is currently under scrutiny due to multiple allegations of sexual misconduct involving players.

This coach, who works for the Sports Authority of India (SAI), has been suspended from his position at the Dr Karni Singh Shooting Range while an internal investigation is conducted.

Concerns were first brought to light by a parent of a young shooter in June, although no formal complaint was filed at that time.

Reports indicate that the coach was implicated in an incident during the ISSF Junior World Championships held in Suhl, Germany, from June 16 to 26. Allegedly, two female athletes reported inappropriate behavior from the coach to other coaches, with one girl expressing distress after he reportedly attempted to touch her inappropriately.

According to a source familiar with the situation, 'Both girls were visibly upset and required comfort. This incident was documented in a report submitted to the National Rifle Association of India (NRAI) by the coaches.'

The complaints from the young shooters were formally submitted to the NRAI, which then informed its internal complaints committee and escalated the issue to the SAI headquarters.

SAI confirmed to a local media outlet, 'We received a notification from the NRAI regarding allegations against a shooting coach at Dr Karni Singh Shooting Range. The matter is currently under review by the NRAI's internal complaints committee.'

'As a precautionary measure, the coach has been reassigned from Dr Karni Singh Shooting Range to the Regional Centre in Delhi while the NRAI investigation is ongoing,' the statement further noted.

In the meantime, the eight-member internal complaints committee, led by former MP Putul Kumari, conducted a formal hearing with the coach and several others at the NRAI office on Thursday. The proceedings were recorded on video, and it is anticipated that additional hearings will take place before a final decision is reached.
