Shikhar Dhawan Endorses Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli for 2027 World Cup
Dhawan Supports Veteran Players for Upcoming World Cup
New Delhi [India] - Former Indian cricketer Shikhar Dhawan has expressed his support for Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli as they prepare for the 2027 Cricket World Cup.
Dhawan emphasized the importance of experience in major tournaments, stating that both Sharma and Kohli bring invaluable expertise to the team.
Since announcing their retirements from Test cricket in May, both players have seen limited action in ODIs, a format that has become less prominent in the cricketing calendar.
Despite their impressive performances in ODIs this year, concerns have been raised regarding their reduced playing time and the potential impact of age on their performance as they approach the prestigious tournament, with both players nearing their 40s.
When the World Cup takes place, co-hosted by South Africa, Zimbabwe, and Namibia, Rohit will be in his 40s, while Kohli will be in his late 30s.
"Of course, they can and should continue playing. Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli are both seasoned players, and experience is crucial as we head into the ODI World Cup, which is just a year away," Dhawan remarked.
Additionally, Dhawan praised the young batting talent Vaibhav Sooryavanshi from Rajasthan Royals for his fearless approach against fast bowlers, noting his impressive performance.
"Vaibhav Sooryavanshi is excelling. I am truly impressed by his ability to face bowlers delivering at 145 km/h. It’s remarkable, and I believe he will soon make his debut for India if he maintains this form," he added.
Sooryavanshi is having a remarkable IPL 2026 season, currently leading the Orange Cap race with 400 runs in just 9 matches, boasting an average of 44.44, which includes one century and two fifties.
