Budapest, Hungary - August 12: Renowned American sprinter Sha'Carri Richardson has received an invitation to participate in the women's 100m event at the inaugural World Athletics Ultimate Championship, marking her return to the site where she clinched her first world title two years ago.

On Tuesday, Richardson shared the news via her Instagram stories, announcing that the three-day invitational event is set to occur from September 11 to 13 at the National Athletics Centre in Budapest, as reported by Olympics.com.

The 26-year-old athlete is returning to a venue where she previously made history, having achieved a championship-record time of 10.65 seconds to secure the women's 100m title at the 2023 World Championships held in Budapest. Additionally, she played a crucial role in leading the United States to victory in the 4x100m relay during the same championships.

Despite not earning an automatic invitation to the Ultimate Championship through the usual channels—having finished second to Julien Alfred in the 100m at the Paris 2024 Olympics and fifth at the 2025 World Championships in Tokyo—Richardson remains a top contender among the world's elite sprinters. She is also eligible for participation via the ranking route.

On July 24, Richardson claimed her third US 100m title at Icahn Stadium in New York, clocking in at 10.77 seconds, which is the fastest time recorded by an American woman in the event this year.

Currently, she ranks fourth in the world, bolstering her chances for a spot at this prestigious season-ending event.

The inaugural World Athletics Ultimate Championship will showcase approximately 360 athletes competing in 28 events over three evening sessions. Automatic invitations were granted to champions from the Paris 2024 Olympics and the 2025 World Championships, while additional spots are reserved for Diamond League Final winners, top-ranked athletes post-qualification, and special invitees.

The qualification window will close on September 1, with World Athletics expected to announce the final list of participants on September 7.
