Sean Abbott's Journey Back to Test Cricket

Sydney, Australia - December 25: Australian fast bowler Sean Abbott is setting his sights on returning to the Test team following his recovery from a hamstring injury. The right-arm pacer was included in the Baggy Greens' Ashes squad for the first Test against England, which Australia won by eight wickets in Perth.

With 57 international white-ball matches under his belt, Abbott has been on the verge of breaking into the Test squad for a while. Despite his optimism, the coveted Baggy Green cap remains just out of reach for him at this moment.

"The timing of my injury was unfortunate, I must admit," Abbott shared with reporters as he prepares to return for the Sydney Sixers on Boxing Day, according to cricket.com.au.

"I was only part of the Test squad for the initial match. I won't speculate on future selections, but I can confidently say that participating in an Ashes series is the ultimate goal for many Australian cricketers, something we dream about from childhood, and I still do," he continued.

The 34-year-old expressed that he was unaware of the severity of his injury sustained against Victoria until he had scans done.

"Over the past six weeks, I haven't felt injured at all, so the main challenge has been managing my eagerness to get back into the game. I have to remind myself to take it slow at times," he explained.

"My drive has never been a problem. I'm proud of my ability to compartmentalize and focus on the next steps, stepping back to see the bigger picture and recognize other opportunities that have come my way," Abbott stated.

He also mentioned that he has signed with Surrey to participate in County Cricket, with hopes of making a Test comeback for Australia.

"Next season, there will be around 20 Tests. I've committed to playing with Surrey in county cricket, and I'm eager to engage in the four-day format and some T20 matches as well. I believe my game is in a solid place to perform well and fulfill a role if I receive that call-up to the Test squad in the future," he added.
