Dominant Performance by Indian Duo

Changzhou [China], July 25: The Indian men's doubles team of Satwiksairaj Rankireddy and Chirag Shetty advanced to the semi-finals of the BWF Super 1000 China Open 2025, achieving a straight-games victory against Malaysia's Yew Sin Ong and Ee Yi Teo.


In a commanding display at the Olympic Sports Centre Gymnasium, the duo secured the match with scores of 21-18, 21-14 in just 40 minutes. This victory marks their fourth semi-final appearance this season, following impressive performances at the India, Singapore, and Malaysia Opens, as reported by the Badminton Association of India (BAI).


After a strong start in the first game, Satwik and Chirag managed to fend off a late challenge from their Malaysian opponents to take the first game 21-18. In the second game, they broke away from a close 15-14 lead, scoring six consecutive points to clinch the match.


Next, they will face a crucial match against world No. 2 Aaron Chia and Soh Wooi Yik from Malaysia, the same pair that eliminated them in the quarter-finals of the Paris 2024 Olympics.


Meanwhile, young Indian player Unnati Hooda's journey in the China Open concluded with a loss to world number four and former champion Akane Yamaguchi in the quarter-finals.


In her quarter-final match, Unnati fell to Akane with scores of 16-21, 12-21. This was her debut at a BWF Super 1000 event, and the 17-year-old made headlines with her bold performances.


As per the release, she became the fourth Indian woman to reach the quarter-finals of a BWF Super 1000 tournament. Unnati's remarkable journey included a stunning victory over two-time Olympic medallist PV Sindhu, which secured her spot in the quarter-finals on Thursday.


The match highlighted the potential of Indian badminton, showcasing the rising talent of Hooda against the experienced Sindhu. Hooda began strongly, winning the first game 21-16, but Sindhu fought back to take the second game 21-19. In the deciding game, Hooda displayed exceptional skill, winning 21-13 to progress to the quarter-finals.
