Sarvesh Kushare Makes History with Silver Medal at Commonwealth Games 2026

New Delhi, July 28: Kiren Rijiju, the Minister of Parliamentary Affairs, extended his congratulations to Sarvesh Kushare for securing a silver medal in the men's high jump at the 2026 Commonwealth Games held in Glasgow.

In a post on X, Rijiju praised Kushare's remarkable performance, describing it as a significant milestone for Indian athletics and a source of great national pride.

As the first Indian athlete to clinch a silver medal in the men’s high jump at the Commonwealth Games, Sarvesh has made history.

He successfully cleared a height of 2.25 meters in the final but narrowly missed out on gold after failing to clear 2.28 meters in three attempts.

Jamaica's Romaine Beckford also cleared 2.25 meters but won the gold medal based on countback, having achieved it with fewer attempts, while England's Kimani Jack took home the bronze with a jump of 2.20 meters.

The pivotal moment occurred at the 2.25-meter mark, where Sarvesh succeeded on his third attempt. Beckford, however, cleared the height on his first attempt, which ultimately secured him the gold medal.

Entering the Commonwealth Games with impressive form, Sarvesh had set a new Indian national record of 2.31 meters at the National Inter-State Championships just a month prior.

He carried this momentum into Glasgow, confidently navigating the early heights before securing his podium finish with a clearance of 2.25 meters.
