Tribute to a Great Leader

New Delhi, August 16: Sardar Singh, the former captain of the Indian men's hockey team, paid homage to the late Prime Minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee during a prayer meeting held at 'Sadaiv Atal' on the anniversary of his passing.

In an interview, Sardar Singh expressed his pride in participating in the event, noting the attendance of numerous esteemed leaders.

"It was a heartfelt experience. We gathered to honor Atal Bihari Vajpayee, and the presence of veteran leaders highlighted the affection people have for him, which conveyed a very uplifting message," Sardar Singh remarked.

Earlier in the day, Prime Minister Narendra Modi also paid floral tributes to Vajpayee at his memorial, 'Sadaiv Atal', located in the capital.

Other dignitaries, including President Droupadi Murmu, Vice President CP Radhakrishnan, and BJP National President Nitin Nabin, were present at the memorial to commemorate the former Prime Minister.

Vajpayee, a towering figure in Indian politics, held the position of Prime Minister three times. His first term was a brief stint in 1996, followed by two longer terms from 1998 to 1999 and then from 1999 to 2004.

Renowned for his eloquence and statesmanship, Vajpayee was a founding member of the Bharatiya Janata Party and significantly influenced its political trajectory.

Under his leadership, India experienced notable advancements in infrastructure, diplomacy, economic strategies, and national security. Additionally, Vajpayee was a celebrated Hindi poet and earned respect across the political spectrum for his contributions to public life.

In recognition of his service to the nation, he was awarded the Bharat Ratna, India's highest civilian honor, in 2015. Vajpayee passed away on August 16, 2018, at the age of 93, and his death anniversary serves as a moment to reflect on his life and legacy.
