Sanju Samson has developed strategies to cope with the external pressures impacting his cricketing journey. He acknowledges that the fierce competition for positions in India's top order can be daunting, especially since players have little time to dwell on selection outcomes.

In a recent match against Afghanistan, Samson showcased his skills by scoring a powerful 57 runs off just 22 balls, contributing to India's decisive seven-wicket victory. However, he understands that discussions regarding his career trajectory are far from over.

During a post-match interview, Samson remarked, "I attempt to disconnect from the internet, but sometimes I inadvertently come across comments from senior players. It's a common occurrence, and I respect their opinions."

He added, "The mindset of others can vary; they may frame their thoughts positively or negatively. I believe I have matured enough to handle this scrutiny effectively."

Samson admitted that while initial reactions to criticism can be disheartening, he reminds himself of his identity and objectives.

He stated, "The scrutiny faced by Indian cricketers is unavoidable, yet it's crucial to maintain clarity regarding your mindset and preparation. If I focused on external opinions, I wouldn't have been able to perform as I did. I would have hesitated, worrying about the repercussions of getting out."

He continued, "I have had a fulfilling international career, and the World Cup experience has been invaluable. Regardless of the pressure, it's essential to recognize your strengths and express yourself while prioritizing the team's needs."

The Pressure of Competition

Samson faces significant pressure, particularly with 15-year-old Vaibhav Sooryavanshi vying for the opening position. After a series of underwhelming performances in Ireland and early matches in England, Samson was replaced by Sooryavanshi.

However, following Sooryavanshi's string of low scores, Samson was reinstated for the fifth match. He commented, "Managing an Indian team is no easy task. A 15-year-old has already scored 700-800 runs. My World Cup performance preceded that, and his impressive form warranted his inclusion."

Samson acknowledged, "I had a few poor outings, and he was in form, which made the decision to replace me understandable from a leadership perspective. I've faced similar situations and made tough decisions as a captain in the IPL, so I can relate to that."

He emphasized the importance of communication within the team, noting, "GG Bhai's communication was vital. We had extensive discussions during the England series and leading up to this one. Making difficult decisions is challenging, but as a leadership group, we prioritize the team's success over popularity."

Fostering a Positive Team Environment

Discussing the competition for the top batting spots, Samson remarked, "I focus on what I can control and maintain a positive attitude towards my competitors. While they may be seen as rivals, we are ultimately a team representing our country."

He added, "We must be prepared for our opportunities without sulking or harboring negativity about selection decisions. Such mindsets are counterproductive."

On achieving consistency, Samson emphasized the importance of preparation and process over results in the high-stakes T20 format. He stated, "Consistency lies in my preparation and practice. While results may vary, maintaining a consistent mindset is crucial. This is what I refer to as a fearless approach."

He concluded, "Every conversation in the dressing room reinforces that the team supports you wholeheartedly. They encourage a fearless style of play. In the last match, Abhishek exemplified this, and I aimed to do the same in this game. That's our collective goal as a team."
