Sanju Samson, whose remarkable performances were pivotal in India's recent T20 World Cup victory, expressed confidence that the nation is set to dominate international cricket for years ahead.

During the BCCI Naman Awards 2026 held in the capital, Samson compared his journey during the World Cup to a cinematic experience, admitting that the reality of their success is still sinking in.

He shared, "I still wake up some mornings thinking, 'Did that really happen?' That's honestly how I feel about last Sunday’s win."

Samson believes that with the caliber of players emerging in India, such triumphs will become more frequent. He stated, "This isn't just a one-time occurrence; the influx of talent suggests that India will continue to achieve this success repeatedly."

Recognized as the Player of the Tournament in the 2026 T20 World Cup, he amassed 321 runs at an impressive strike rate of nearly 200 across five innings, leading India to the championship.

Despite not being a starter initially, he made significant contributions with scores exceeding 80 in crucial matches against the West Indies, England, and New Zealand.

Samson expressed his long-held aspiration to secure a World Cup for India, saying, "You can only dream about your goals, but the journey is unpredictable. My career has been a testament to that. I aimed for this achievement years ago."

He added, "Winning a World Cup for my country has always been my dream, but the journey unfolded in its own unique way, much like a film. I truly enjoyed the experience."

The humble cricketer from Kerala has dedicated years to making a mark in the sport, and the T20 World Cup represented his pinnacle moment.

Reflecting on his journey, he noted, "I always wanted to achieve something significant, but I faced setbacks. When the team called upon me to contribute, my mindset shifted. Before, I was focused on my individual performance, but during the World Cup, my attention turned to the team's needs."

He continued, "From the Zimbabwe game onward, I realized my role was crucial. The team needed me, and I was determined to give my best. That's when everything changed for me."

Samson emphasized his preparation, stating, "I had been training mentally and physically, knowing I was ready for this moment. I just needed to execute what I do best."

Having played this format for a long time, he felt it was all about strategy and execution.

Pacer Mohammed Siraj described the victory as a "miracle" from his perspective, as he was not part of the original squad and was only included as a replacement for an injured player.

He remarked, "I wasn't in the initial lineup, but after playing a game, I found myself part of two World Cup-winning teams. I consider it a miracle for me."
