A Remarkable Achievement in Rowing

Amethi (Uttar Pradesh) [India], September 25: After Salman Khan clinched a bronze medal in rowing at the Asian Games, his mother shared insights into the challenges he overcame to achieve this milestone. From working as a cab driver to supporting his family and eventually serving in the army, his journey to the podium has been nothing short of inspiring.

In the men's double sculls final, Salman Khan and his partner Satnam Singh finished with a time of 6:13.25, securing third place. They were just 3.48 seconds behind the gold medalists, the Chinese duo Yi Xudi and Nie Yide, and 2.76 seconds behind the silver medalists Mekhrojbek Mamatkulov and Pavel Sorin, as reported by ESPN.

Speaking to a news outlet, Jabrun Nisha, Salman’s mother, expressed immense pride in her son's accomplishment, stating that he has brought honor to the entire nation.

She shared, "We have been praying for him since the beginning. Knowing he was competing, our family woke up at 4:00 AM to pray. When we received the news at 5:00 AM, our joy was indescribable. He is our child, and we are overjoyed. The entire nation is celebrating his success, which makes us proud."

Reflecting on their past, she recounted the financial difficulties they faced, particularly after the death of Salman’s father. The family had to relocate from Haryana, and Salman took on the responsibility of driving a cab to support his six siblings.

"We endured many hardships. Initially, we struggled financially and had to leave Haryana after my husband passed away. Salman took it upon himself to support us by driving a cab," she reminisced.

"With six young children—four boys and two girls—Salman stepped up when their father died. At just 17 or 18, he became the family's main provider," she added.

Salman's mother noted that while he was managing the family's expenses, relatives encouraged him to join the army due to his impressive physique. Although he faced setbacks initially, he persevered and eventually succeeded in enlisting.

"His relatives and neighbors suggested he join the Army because of his strong build. After failing his first attempt, he felt disheartened and considered giving up. However, he tried again, passed, and joined the Army," she recalled.

"In the Army, they recognized his athletic potential and selected him for sports. Although he wasn't initially interested, his fitness led him to win numerous medals, which we proudly display at home. His hard work has finally paid off, and we are grateful for this achievement," she concluded.
