Salil Arora Makes His IPL Debut with Sunrisers Hyderabad

Salil Arora's Debut in IPL 2026

In the opening match of the 2026 Indian Premier League (IPL) season, Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) introduced Salil Arora, a promising 23-year-old, to the cricketing world against Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) at the M. Chinnaswamy Stadium in Bengaluru. Arora, who was acquired by SRH for ₹1.5 crore during the mini-auction held in Abu Dhabi last year, is stepping into the spotlight of the world's premier cricket league. His signing came after a competitive bidding process, where SRH outbid the Mumbai Indians (MI), indicating the player's potential as recognized by the five-time champions.


Background on Salil Arora

Originating from Punjab, Arora has already established himself in domestic cricket, making his first-class and T20 debuts in 2024. He made a significant impact during the 2025-26 Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy, scoring a remarkable 125 runs off just 45 balls against Jharkhand, a match where Ishan Kishan, the captain of SRH, was leading the opposing team. Recently, during a practice match, Salil showcased his explosive batting by hitting five sixes in five consecutive balls, including two against seasoned pacer Jayden Unadkat, which was streamed live on YouTube.


Throughout his T20 career, Salil has participated in 9 matches, accumulating 359 runs with an impressive strike rate of 197.25. In first-class cricket, he has played 9 games, scoring 458 runs at an average of 41.63, which includes one century and three half-centuries. Additionally, he has made 74 runs in three List A matches. Known for his power-hitting, Salil is anticipated to play a crucial role in the lower-middle order as a finisher. Last season, he hit 28 sixes in the SMAT, ranking second among all players, just behind Kishan's performance in the final.
