Saina Nehwal Applauds P V Sindhu's Remarkable Comeback
New Delhi, July 20: Badminton icon Saina Nehwal expressed her admiration for P V Sindhu following her impressive victory at the Japan Open Super 750 tournament. Nehwal emphasized that true champions should never be underestimated.
Nehwal pointed out Sindhu's determination in overcoming a challenging phase filled with injuries, asserting that this recent win will significantly boost her confidence.
She praised Sindhu's dynamic playing style and her notable victories against several top-ranked opponents, describing her return to form as a reflection of her champion spirit.
Sindhu showcased her exceptional skills by clinching her first Japan Open title, triumphing over local favorite and world No. 3 Akane Yamaguchi with scores of 21-17, 21-17 in the women's singles final of the BWF Super 750 event held on Sunday.
“A champion can never be counted out. This victory has surely restored her confidence. She has consistently performed at a high level for many years. The past couple of years have been particularly challenging for her due to injuries. However, her resilience and the way she dominated the competition here, defeating several top players with ease, is commendable,” Nehwal remarked to reporters.
This win not only marks Sindhu's first Super 750 title but also ends a title drought of over two years, making her the first Indian player to achieve this feat at the prestigious Japan Open. It stands as her most significant victory since she won the BWF World Championships in 2019.
With this success in Tokyo, Sindhu has not only secured her maiden Japan Open title but has also made a powerful statement ahead of the upcoming major international competitions this season.
