Ryan ten Doeschate Considers Leaving India's Coaching Staff Amid Tensions

Ryan ten Doeschate, a vital member of India's cricket coaching team, is reportedly considering resigning amid rumors of a rift between Gautam Gambhir and Virat Kohli. Observations from a recent practice session highlighted the lack of interaction between the two, raising questions about team dynamics. Additionally, T Dilip's tenure as fielding coach is also set to conclude after the England series. With changes in the coaching staff on the horizon, the future of India's cricket team remains uncertain as they prepare for upcoming challenges.

Coaching Changes in Indian Cricket

Ryan ten Doeschate, an integral part of India's coaching team, is reportedly contemplating his departure amidst speculation of discord between Gautam Gambhir and Virat Kohli. Observations from the practice session prior to the first ODI revealed a lack of interaction between the head coach and the former captain. Kohli engaged with batting coach Sitanshu Kotak, who subsequently communicated with Gambhir. Kohli is set to make his return to international cricket in the first ODI against England in Birmingham on July 14.

According to reports, Doeschate has already communicated his intention to resign to the BCCI, citing personal reasons. His role as India's assistant coach is expected to conclude after the third ODI on July 19, pending approval from the board. Doeschate, known for his close association with Gambhir, is the only player from the Netherlands to have participated in the IPL, having played for Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) under Gambhir's leadership. He later served as KKR's fielding coach.

Doeschate transitioned to Team India alongside Gambhir after the latter's appointment as head coach, with his two-year contract set to expire following the England series. Morne Morkel, the bowling coach, also signed a two-year contract, but there are no updates regarding his future.

T Dilip's Tenure Coming to an End

T Dilip's time as the fielding coach is also nearing its conclusion after the England series. He joined the national team alongside Rahul Dravid in November 2021 and was retained to work with Gambhir's staff until the 2025 Champions Trophy. Following the ICC event, the BCCI dismissed Abhishek Nayar and Dilip from their roles. However, Dilip was reappointed as fielding coach before India's subsequent assignment after their title victory.

Recently, Sairaj Bahutule was appointed as the spin-bowling coach, having previously worked on a temporary basis under Dravid and now becoming a permanent member of the coaching staff. Gambhir's tenure as head coach is expected to conclude after the 2027 ODI World Cup. While India has faced challenges in Test matches since his appointment, they have thrived in white-ball formats, securing two ICC titles.
