Ryan Rickelton Reflects on Learning from MI's Diverse Coaching Staff
Rickelton's Insights on MI's Coaching Experience
Mumbai (Maharashtra) [India] - On May 3, Mumbai Indians (MI) opener Ryan Rickelton shared his appreciation for the opportunity to learn from a coaching team that includes former players from various countries and eras, stating, "there's a wealth of knowledge to draw from."
Despite a challenging season with only two victories and seven defeats, MI is set to compete against the Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) at the Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai on Monday, aiming to restore some pride.
Rickelton has emerged as MI's top scorer this season, amassing 297 runs over seven innings, boasting an impressive average of 49.50 and a strike rate of 177.84, which includes a century and a half-century.
The coaching staff at MI features a mix of international players from different generations, including head coach Mahela Jayawardene, batting coach Kieron Pollard, fast bowling coach Lasith Malinga, and spin bowling coach Paras Mhambrey.
Rickelton remarked, "The wealth of experience they bring from their playing days is remarkable. Our coaching team represents various generations, each contributing their unique perspective on the game. Mahela played before my time, while Polly is both a player and a coach. This group is exceptional, and their methods are distinctive. Every day in this sport offers new learning opportunities, and having guidance from these legends is invaluable."
Reflecting on his record-setting performance of 123* against Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH), which marked the fastest century and highest score in franchise history, Rickelton described the experience as "surreal," noting he only learned of the achievement post-match.
"It's incredibly special to be at the top of the honours board, especially considering the caliber of players who have been part of this dressing room. I never anticipated this moment, but it feels great," he added, according to MI's official website.
