Royal Challengers Bengaluru Dominates IPL 2026 with Victory Over Lucknow Super Giants
RCB Takes the Lead in IPL 2026
Under the leadership of Rajat Patidar, the Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) have once again ascended to the top of the IPL 2026 points table following a remarkable victory against Rishabh Pant's Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) in match 23, held at the renowned M.Chinnaswamy Stadium on April 15. The defending champions have established themselves as a dominant force this season, marking their second consecutive win and reclaiming the top position in the standings. This victory has pushed the Rajasthan Royals and Punjab Kings down to the second and third positions, respectively. Meanwhile, Sunrisers Hyderabad remains steady at fourth place after a significant win over Rajasthan in their last encounter. Despite appearing strong, RR's batting lineup faltered against SRH in that match.
In contrast, three teams with a combined total of 13 trophies, historically significant in the tournament, find themselves at the bottom of the points table. Chennai Super Kings and Mumbai Indians occupy the 8th and 9th spots, while Kolkata Knight Riders sit at the very bottom, still searching for their first win this season.
IPL 2026 Points Table Update
RCB Triumphs Over LSG by 5 Wickets
Romario Shepherd sealed the match with a boundary off the first ball of the 16th over, as RCB comfortably chased down the target of 147 runs in just 15.1 overs. This victory places them at the top of the standings, thanks to a superior run rate, while Rajasthan Royals slips to second place. Virat Kohli led the batting for RCB with a score of 49 runs. Although LSG's Prince Yadav took two wickets in a single over, it was too late to change the outcome. With four wins out of five matches, RCB is emerging as a strong contender to defend their title, while LSG faces their third defeat in five games.
Kohli, who played as an impact player and did not field during the match, discussed his injury and overall condition post-game. "I feel much better than in the last match, though I'm still not at 100%. My knee was sore in the previous game, and I was under the weather for the past four to five days. I'm pleased with my intensity," Kohli remarked after the match. Earlier, Rasikh Salam Dar's impressive four-wicket haul and Bhuvneshwar Kumar's three wickets helped RCB restrict LSG to just 146 runs, paving the way for their impressive victory.
