Royal Challengers Bengaluru Clinch Second WPL Title with Victory Over Delhi Capitals
RCB Triumphs in Women's Premier League Final
In Vadodara, Gujarat, on February 6, Royal Challengers Bengaluru secured their second Women's Premier League (WPL) championship by defeating Delhi Capitals in a thrilling final at the BCA Stadium. RCB spinner Shreyanka Patil took a moment to express her gratitude towards her captain, Smriti Mandhana.
Patil dedicated the victory to three key figures: her captain Mandhana, head coach Malolan Rangarajan, and assistant coach Anya Shrubsole. She stated, "I want to highlight three individuals – first, Smriti, who has faced numerous challenges in recent months. This win is for her. Also, Malo and Anya. Today marks Anya's son's first birthday, and for Malo, it's his debut as head coach, making this win special for all of us," as reported by a sports news outlet.
Reflecting on the final, Patil shared, "This is incredibly special for me, marking my comeback season in the WPL. The crowd was fantastic, supporting us throughout the match. Even with 200 runs on the board, they believed in us. I extend my heartfelt thanks to everyone who came out to support us, as well as to those watching from Bangalore and Karnataka."
During the 2026 season, Patil took 11 wickets across nine matches, although she did not take any wickets in the final, conceding 32 runs in two overs.
With this victory, Royal Challengers Bengaluru claimed their second WPL title, while Delhi Capitals faced their fourth consecutive season without a trophy.
Mandhana played a pivotal role in the match, scoring 87 runs and forming a crucial partnership of 165 runs with Georgia Voll, who contributed 79 runs off 54 balls. This partnership was instrumental in RCB successfully chasing a challenging target of 204 runs, with Mandhana's score being the highest in a WPL final.
In pursuit of the highest total in WPL history, Mandhana's team made history in the tournament's finale. Previously, RCB held the record for chasing down 202 runs against the Gujarat Giants last year.
RCB all-rounder Radha Yadav, who played a vital role with a quick 12 runs off five balls, expressed her joy, stating, "Everyone is thrilled. This team has put in tremendous effort. The management has supported us and provided everything we needed, often exceeding our expectations. This victory is for them. As players, we work hard; sometimes we succeed, sometimes we don’t. But the management's dedication deserves recognition."
"We practiced situational scenarios, aiming for specific runs within a set number of balls. Our management was instrumental in helping us enhance our skills. I believe I can perform even better. I haven't yet played to my full potential, but I will continue to work hard, and perhaps one day I will help us win a World Cup. Recently, we took a short break to recharge, as the management decided we needed some time off to return refreshed," she concluded.
