Rovman Powell has made history by becoming the highest run-scorer for the West Indies in T20I cricket. This milestone was achieved during the second T20I match against Sri Lanka in a three-match series. Batting at number three, Powell scored an impressive 43 runs off just 26 deliveries, including two sixes and five fours. With this performance, he surpassed Nicholas Pooran, who concluded his T20I career with 2275 runs before retiring from international cricket in June 2025. Since his debut in 2017, Powell has accumulated 2314 runs across 105 innings, featuring one century and ten half-centuries. He is on track to become the first West Indian to reach 3000 runs in T20 cricket. Brandon King follows him with 2012 runs, while Chris Gayle, a T20 cricket pioneer, scored 1899 runs before retiring after the 2021 T20 World Cup. Evin Lewis has also made his mark with 1799 runs and two T20I centuries.


In the overall T20I rankings, Babar Azam leads with 4596 runs in 136 innings, although he was recently dropped from the playing XI during the T20 World Cup. Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli follow closely, with 4231 and 4188 runs, respectively. Both players retired from T20I cricket after their victory in the 2024 World Cup.

The T20I series between the West Indies and Sri Lanka is currently tied at 1-1. The West Indies started strong with a seven-wicket victory, successfully chasing down a target of 148 in 19.2 overs. However, Sri Lanka made a comeback by defending a challenging target of 195. The final match of the series will take place at Sabina Park in Jamaica on Sunday, June 14. Previously, Sri Lanka won the ODI series 1-0, with the last two ODIs being abandoned due to rain.
