Rohit Yadav Faces Two-Year Ban Due to Age Discrepancies

Rohit Yadav, a promising leg-spinner for India's Under-19 cricket team, has been suspended for two years after the Cricket Association of Bengal discovered serious discrepancies in his age documentation. This revelation has led to his removal from the squad set to face Australia Under-19 later this month. The investigation found conflicting birth records, resulting in a significant age discrepancy of 27 months. Yadav is among 65 players barred from registration due to similar issues, raising concerns about age fraud in cricket. The implications of this ban extend to other players, including former World Cup winner Ravi Kumar, whose records have also been invalidated.

New Delhi, Sep 4: Rohit Yadav, a leg-spinner for India's Under-19 cricket team, has received a two-year suspension after the Cricket Association of Bengal (CAB) uncovered significant discrepancies in his age documentation.

Previously part of the Under-19 squad that toured Sri Lanka in July, where he took six wickets in a Youth Test, Yadav is now prohibited from participating in any cricket activities following the revelation of irregularities in his birth records.

As a result, he has been removed from the upcoming series against Australia Under-19, which includes five 50-over matches and two multi-day games scheduled for later this month in Rajkot and Ahmedabad. A BCCI source confirmed, "Yes, he has been withdrawn from the squads, after this was alerted to us by CAB. A word on who will be his replacement in the two squads will be known later."

The CAB's investigation revealed multiple conflicting birth certificates for Yadav, showing different birth years of 2006, 2007, and 2009, as well as inconsistencies in his Aadhaar card records from 2014 to 2021. This has resulted in an official age discrepancy of 27 months.

In total, the CAB has barred 65 players from registration or transfers for the 2026–27 and 2027–28 domestic seasons due to similar age discrepancies and documentation issues.

Among those affected is Ravi Kumar, a former Under-19 World Cup champion, who had a notable performance in the 2022 final against England. However, CAB records indicate a 45-month age discrepancy for him, invalidating all age-group participation records from the 2021/22 season through the 2025/26 campaign. Additionally, left-arm spin all-rounder Vishal Bhatti, who has played three first-class and two List A matches for Bengal, has also been flagged for similar issues.
