Rohit Sharma's Fitness Update Ahead of ODI Series Against Afghanistan
Rohit Sharma's Conditional Selection for ODI Series
The selection committee, led by Ajit Agarkar, has included Rohit Sharma in the ODI squad for the upcoming series against Afghanistan, contingent upon his fitness. Alongside Rohit, Hardik Pandya is also required to demonstrate his fitness levels. Following Rohit's selection, Mahela Jayawardene, the head coach of Mumbai Indians (MI), provided an important update regarding Rohit's condition. During a press conference ahead of MI's final IPL 2026 match against Rajasthan Royals (RR), Jayawardene confirmed that Rohit is fully fit and is currently participating as an Impact Player to optimize team dynamics.
“In my opinion, and according to our medical team, Rohit is at 100%. After his hamstring injury, we were cautious during his first game back. Now, he is playing as an Impact Sub to balance the team during bowling. He is a team player and understands the situation perfectly,” Jayawardene stated.
Rohit sustained a hamstring injury while playing against Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) on April 12. He returned to action a few weeks later and has been utilized as an Impact Player since. However, the selectors appear to have reservations about his fitness, necessitating a fitness test. Meanwhile, Pandya, who missed four matches this season due to back spasms, has returned and is set to captain MI against RR.
