Rohit Sharma Returns to Nets Ahead of Crucial Match Against Gujarat Titans
Rohit Sharma's Comeback
After dealing with a hamstring injury, Rohit Sharma has made his way back to the practice nets with the Mumbai Indians as they gear up for their upcoming clash against the Gujarat Titans. The injury occurred during an IPL 2026 match against RCB, prompting medical scans to assess its severity. Despite his efforts to recover, Rohit was unable to participate in the game against the Punjab Kings, with Hardik Pandya confirming that he would be sidelined for at least two matches. However, on the eve of the match, Rohit was seen training hard in the nets, much to the delight of MI fans.
Fitness Update from MI Coach
According to MI's bowling coach, Paras Mhambrey, both Rohit Sharma and Mitchell Santner are fit and ready for the match against GT. MI is looking to turn around their season, which has taken a downturn after losing four consecutive matches following an initial victory over the Kolkata Knight Riders. Mhambrey stated, "Both are fit. If you walk by the nets, you can see Rohit working on his batting. Santner is also fit, although we missed him in the last game due to illness."
As Rohit prepared for the match on Monday, he showcased some of his classic shots in the nets, indicating he is in good form. A final decision regarding his participation will be made after the last practice session before the match, with the medical team and head coach Mahela Jayawardene closely monitoring his recovery. MI released a statement saying, "Rohit is batting in the nets in Ahmedabad and is being assessed by the medical staff and Head Coach Mahela Jayawardene."
In Rohit's absence, Quinton de Kock and Ryan Rickleton have been brought in to open the batting. De Kock scored 112 against the Punjab Kings, capitalizing on his opportunities, while Rickleton has struggled with his form, scoring only 9, 8, 37, and 2 in recent matches after a strong start. If Rohit returns, he is expected to partner with De Kock at the top of the order. So far this season, Rohit has accumulated 137 runs in four games.
Currently, MI sits at the bottom of the league table with just two points, having lost their last four matches, making a victory essential.
