Rohit Sharma Named Brand Ambassador for 2026 Men's T20 World Cup
Rohit Sharma Embraces New Role as Brand Ambassador
Rohit Sharma, known for his patience and flair, has been appointed as the brand ambassador for the 2026 Men's T20 World Cup, a role that reflects his enduring influence in cricket.
After stepping back from T20I and Test formats several months ago, the 38-year-old cricket legend shared that he is adjusting to watching matches from home rather than participating directly.
Despite his retirement from certain formats, Rohit remains active in ODIs, making it a rare honor for a current player to be named an ambassador for an ICC event, a recognition he deeply appreciates.
During the announcement of the tournament schedule, which will take place from February 7 to March 8 in India and Sri Lanka, Rohit expressed his gratitude, stating, 'I was informed that no player has held this title while still playing, making it a significant privilege for me.'
Having led India to victory in the last T20 World Cup in 2024, he is optimistic about the Suryakumar Yadav-led team replicating that success on home soil.
Rohit remarked, 'I hope we can recreate the magic we achieved last year with a new group of players. Winning an ICC event is a monumental challenge, and I feel fortunate to have secured two titles in my 18-year career.'
Transitioning away from the shorter formats has posed challenges, but Rohit is gradually adapting by spending quality time with family, engaging in training, and attending various social events.
Reflecting on his new perspective, he noted, 'Watching from the sidelines will be a different experience, especially since I've participated in every T20 World Cup so far. I'm getting accustomed to this new routine.'
Rohit has an impressive record in T20Is, amassing 4,231 runs with an average of 32.01 and a strike rate of 140.89.
Celebrating the Women's Team's World Cup Victory
Rohit also took a moment to commend the Indian women's cricket team for their recent World Cup victory, a long-awaited achievement after years of near misses.
In the presence of women's team captain Harmanpreet Kaur, he expressed, 'I understand the struggles they faced over the years. The feeling of overcoming setbacks to finally win the trophy is indescribable. I was there to witness their hard work pay off, especially after the England match.'
'Even though I wasn't on the field, I felt the excitement when they lifted the trophy. It was a proud moment for me and for the entire nation,' he added, celebrating the women's team's first world title.
Rohit announced his retirement from T20s following India's victory in the Americas last year, which ended an 11-year drought for ICC trophies.
Discussing the groupings for the upcoming T20 World Cup, he noted, 'Our group includes Pakistan, the US, Netherlands, and Namibia. It's crucial to approach every tournament with full focus from the very first ball.'
'All these teams are competitive, and I was pleasantly surprised to see Italy included as well,' he remarked.
'I hope to see more teams from Europe, Africa, and Southeast Asia in the future, as the sport continues to grow significantly.'
