Rohit Sharma Joins Elite Club with 14,000 ODI Runs
Rohit Sharma Achieves Milestone Against Afghanistan
During the second ODI of the three-match series in Lucknow, Rohit Sharma scored 48 runs, marking a significant milestone as he joined the ranks of cricket legends like Sachin Tendulkar, Rahul Dravid, Virat Kohli, and Sourav Ganguly by surpassing the 14,000 run mark in One Day Internationals (ODIs). This achievement makes him the fifth Indian player to reach this landmark. Sachin Tendulkar leads the list of Indian run-scorers with a staggering 21,999 runs in his List A career, concluding his journey in 2012 against Pakistan. Following him is Virat Kohli, who has amassed 16,447 runs but is currently sidelined due to a hamstring injury. Sourav Ganguly and Rahul Dravid follow with 15,622 and 15,271 runs, respectively. Rohit Sharma's current tally stands at 14,038 runs, which includes 37 centuries and 74 half-centuries, and he has the potential to cross the 15,000-run mark soon. Notably, he has also recorded three double-centuries in ODIs.
Rohit Sharma's Journey to Regular Selection
It took Rohit Sharma six years to secure a permanent spot in the ODI and T20I teams. Despite receiving strong support from MS Dhoni, who provided him with ample opportunities, Rohit struggled to make a lasting impact and frequently found himself out of the squad between 2007 and 2013. His breakthrough came in 2013 when he was assigned the opening role in the ODI team, a decision that transformed his career. Since then, he has consistently performed well against new ball attacks. Rohit, who succeeded Virat Kohli as the ODI captain, led India to victory in the 2025 Champions Trophy, further solidifying his position in the team.
