Rohit Sharma's Insights on Handling Pressure

Mumbai (Maharashtra) [India], October 15: Renowned Indian cricketer and captain of the T20 World Cup-winning team, Rohit Sharma, recently shared his thoughts on managing high-pressure situations in cricket. He emphasized the significance of thorough preparation and maintaining mental strength to ignore distractions from fans both on and off the field.

During an episode of his show 'Family Full House with Rohit Sharma', he reflected on his impressive record in ICC knockout matches, where he has amassed 884 runs in 21 matches and 23 innings, averaging 44.20, including two centuries and two fifties, with a top score of 137. His leadership in the IPL, securing five trophies, along with pivotal performances in the T20 World Cup 2024 and ICC Champions Trophy, showcases his ability to excel under pressure.

On the show aired on Sony Entertainment Television, singer Mika Singh posed a question to Rohit about performing in front of large crowds. He noted that while they often perform for 10,000 to 15,000 fans, the pressure is minimal as fans are forgiving of mistakes. He asked Rohit how he manages to play effortlessly amidst the overwhelming cheers of 'Rohit! Rohit!' from the entire nation.

Rohit responded by explaining his focus on preparation, stating, 'Before a match, I concentrate intensely on my preparation. When I step onto the field, I carry the confidence that I have trained well, and I believe that what I aim to do will succeed. Since childhood, I have prioritized thorough preparation, studying the opposing team and bowlers to understand their strategies.' He likened this preparation to studying for an exam.

He also acknowledged that every player has their unique approach to preparation and gameplay. 'I want to emphasize that every cricketer has their own methods. They prepare and think in their own ways. There is no right or wrong approach; it's about discovering what works for you,' he concluded.

Despite ongoing discussions regarding his fitness and position ahead of the 2027 World Cup, Rohit remains a formidable player. He ranks as India's third-highest run-scorer in ODIs, with 12,120 runs in 291 matches at an average of 49.26, including 35 centuries and 63 fifties, with a personal best of 264. This year, he has shown remarkable form, scoring 604 runs in 12 innings at an average of 50.33 and a strike rate of 104.67, featuring two centuries and two fifties, with a top score of 138.

In the recent ODIs against West Indies, Rohit was the second-highest run-scorer for India, accumulating 225 runs in three innings at an average of 75.00 and a strike rate exceeding 115, which included a century and a fifty, with a best score of 101.

Rohit, alongside Virat Kohli, is set to compete against New Zealand in a five-match ODI series starting November 4, followed by three ODIs against Sri Lanka at home from December 13.
