Rohit Sharma Celebrates India's Historic T20 World Cup Victory
Rohit Sharma's Praise for Team India
In Ahmedabad, Gujarat, former Indian cricket captain Rohit Sharma extended his congratulations to the national team following their remarkable win at the ICC Men's T20 World Cup 2026. He commended the team's collective effort and resilience throughout the tournament.
Rohit took to Instagram to express his admiration for the players' performances, stating, "Great effort from the entire team, Congratulations."
Sanju Samson emerged as a standout player, amassing 321 runs across five innings with an impressive average of 80.25 and a strike rate of 199.37. His performance included 27 fours and 24 sixes, making him the third-highest run-scorer of the tournament. Notably, he surpassed Virat Kohli's previous record of 319 runs from the 2014 T20 World Cup, setting a new benchmark for Indian players in a single T20 World Cup edition.
Record-Breaking Performances
Despite his achievements, Pakistan's Sahibzada Farhan claimed the title of leading run-scorer in the tournament, finishing with 383 runs at an average of 76.60 and a strike rate of 160.25, including two centuries and two fifties.
Sanju's exceptional form allowed him to surpass Kohli's record, joining an elite group of players, including Virat and Shahid Afridi, who have scored fifties in both T20 World Cup semifinals and finals.
His performance also eclipsed Marlon Samuels' 85* in the 2016 T20 World Cup final and Kane Williamson's 85 in the 2021 final, marking him as the Indian with the highest score in a T20 World Cup knockout match.
Match Highlights
In the final match, New Zealand won the toss and opted to field first. However, a stunning return to form from Abhishek Sharma, who scored 52 runs off just 21 balls, along with a 98-run partnership with Samson, proved to be a costly decision for the Kiwis.
Samson then partnered with Ishan Kishan, who contributed 54 runs off 25 balls, leading India to a total of 255/5, the highest score ever recorded in T20 World Cup finals.
James Neesham was New Zealand's top bowler, taking 3 wickets for 46 runs. In response, India’s bowlers, Axar Patel and Jasprit Bumrah, dismantled the New Zealand batting lineup, restricting them to just 159 runs despite a half-century from Tim Seifert.
