In Guwahati, Assam, on September 30, the Indian cricket team witnessed a remarkable performance from their opening duo, Rohit Sharma and captain Shubman Gill, who established the second-highest opening partnership in ODI history for India.

During the second ODI against the West Indies, the pair captivated fans and made history by scoring 255 runs together while chasing a daunting target of 406 runs. Rohit was eventually dismissed for 101 runs off 75 balls, hitting 10 fours and six sixes, achieving a strike rate of 134.67.

The record for the highest opening partnership for India remains with Sachin Tendulkar and Sourav Ganguly, who had a 258-run stand against Kenya in Paarl back in 2001.

In their 47 innings together, Rohit and Gill have amassed a total of 3,058 runs at an impressive average of 66.47, including nine centuries and 16 half-centuries.

In the match, India won the toss and opted to field first. The West Indies, powered by explosive centuries from John Campbell (101 runs off 68 balls), Shai Hope (104 runs off 94 balls), and Amir Jangoo (114 runs off 77 balls), set a new record for their highest ODI total at 405/7.

Indian bowlers Gurnoor Brar (2/96), debutant Auqib Nabi (0/84 in 8.5 overs), and Ravindra Jadeja (2/75) struggled against the West Indies' batting onslaught, while Kuldeep Yadav (2/65) was the standout bowler for India.
