Guwahati (Assam) [India], September 30: At the age of 39, Indian cricket sensation Rohit Sharma has added another remarkable achievement to his illustrious ODI career, becoming only the third Indian player to surpass 12,000 runs in this format.

With this milestone, Rohit joins the ranks of cricket legends Sachin Tendulkar and Virat Kohli. Throughout his career, which is filled with numerous records, he continues to pursue new heights, further enhancing his already impressive international resume.

Rohit accomplished this feat in just 282 innings, making him the second-fastest player to reach this landmark. Virat Kohli holds the record for the fewest innings taken to achieve this, reaching the milestone in 242 innings, while Sachin Tendulkar needed 300 innings. Ricky Ponting (314) and Kumar Sangakkara (336) round out the top five.

The former captain of India marked this achievement with his 73rd run during the innings, securing the milestone with a single off Roston Chase in the 16th over.

Since his ODI debut in 2007, Rohit Sharma has proven to be one of the most impactful players in the format. Over 290 matches, he has accumulated 12,000 runs, which includes an impressive tally of 34 centuries and 62 half-centuries.

His ODI journey is highlighted by several extraordinary accomplishments, notably his unbeaten 264 runs against Sri Lanka in Kolkata in 2014, which remains the highest individual score in men's ODI cricket. Rohit is also the only player to have achieved three double-centuries in ODIs.

Known for his graceful batting style and ability to adapt his game, Rohit has been a crucial player for India in recent ICC Men’s Cricket World Cups. Following his leadership in guiding India to the finals in 2023, he now aims to secure the one significant accolade that has eluded him: a 50-over World Cup winners' medal.
