Rohit Rajpal Enters AITA Presidential Race

Rohit Rajpal, a member of the Indian Olympic Association (IOA) executive council, has declared his intention to run for the presidency of the All India Tennis Association (AITA).

While the election timeline has not yet been revealed, Rajpal, who also serves as the president of the Delhi Lawn Tennis Association (DLTA), has officially thrown his hat into the ring for this prestigious position.

The current AITA administration, led by Chintan Parikh, was elected in 2024, but the results were put on hold following legal challenges from players, including former Indian tennis star Somdev Devvarman, regarding alleged rule breaches. In April 2026, the Delhi High Court appointed former Chief Justice Geeta Mittal to oversee the AITA.

According to the court's orders, the AITA must finalize constitutional amendments and conduct new elections by September 30.

In a letter released on Monday, Rajpal emphasized his extensive background as a player, Davis Cup captain, IOA executive council member, and AITA official, in addition to his role as Chef de Mission for the Indian team at the Commonwealth Games in Glasgow.

“This journey has instilled in me the confidence to step forward and announce my candidacy for the presidency of the All India Tennis Association, as I aim to contribute to the advancement of tennis in India,” Rajpal stated.

“I earnestly seek your support and blessings. With your backing, I intend to implement a player-focused approach and prioritize good governance and transparency. I will share my vision document in due course,” he concluded.
