Rishabh Pant silenced his critics with an impressive innings of 81 runs, helping India reach a formidable total of 475 for 6 against Afghanistan by lunch on the second day of their one-off Test match on Sunday.

Despite a modest crowd, Pant showcased his trademark aggressive style while also demonstrating restraint, carefully assessing each delivery during his 121-ball innings, which included six fours and three sixes.

He was on track for a century but fell short when debutant left-arm spinner Nangeyalia Kharote slowed the game down. Pant attempted to charge down the pitch but misjudged the delivery, resulting in a simple catch.

Afghanistan's IPL player Azmatullah Omarzai was notably unlucky, impressing with the second new ball and frequently troubling the Indian batsmen without reward.

In the early moments of the second day, Shubman Gill (126 off 177 balls) was dismissed by Mohammad Saleem (4/109 in 20 overs), who bowled a remarkable delivery that ended a solid 169-run partnership.
